Physical Training

Physical fitness is a requirement for Commissioned Army Officers, and thus a key element of Army ROTC training. Cal Poly Army ROTC offers for-credit Physical Training (PT) classes for Cadets and students who wish to join us and improve their fitness level.

PT is held every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 0650-0750 at a variety of locations including Dexter Lawn, the Lower Sports Complex, the track, and the beach.

Our PT sessions are designed and led by MS III (Junior Standing) Cadets and are focused to improve each individual’s performance on the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) and overall physical fitness.

The ACFT consists of six events:

  • 3 REPETITION MAXIMUM DEADLIFT (MDL)
  • STANDING POWER THROW (SPT)
  • HAND RELEASE PUSH-UP – ARM EXTENSION (HRP)
  • SPRINT-DRAG-CARRY (SDC)
  • PLANK (PLK)
  • TWO-MILE RUN (2MR)

ACFT Standards can be found here.
